Support for burn-injured children and their family starts at regional burn centers. Typically, a severe burn requires emergent, specialized treatment at a regional burn center. Burn-Injured children are quickly transported from a local hospital to a regional burn center, with a family caregiver following the child’s transport to the burn center.
Arriving in an unknown city, navigating a large burn center, and ensuring the care of their burn-injured child can be overwhelming for a family caregiver. The Caregiver Comfort Kit is designed to provide some basic comforts for the child’s caregiver in the first few days at a burn center. The kit includes hygiene supplies, travel blanket and pillow, caregiver support information, and information about the SC Burned Children’s Fund.
Continued support of burn-injured children and their families is provided because burns require multiple out-patient burn center visits. Additional support from SC Burned Children’s Fund includes travel assistance, connecting with other burn survivors and caregivers, specialty burn-care garments, and other miscellaneous needs.
